Once you have finished your studies in Canada you may be able to apply for an Open Work Permit. Depending on the length of your studies, your work permit can vary.
Determine whether you require a work permit:
To work in Canada, most people require a work permit. If you require a work permit, you may be eligible for one of two options.
- Employer-specific work permit: An employer-specific work permit allows you to work in accordance with the terms of your work permit, which include the following
- The name of the employer for whom you can work
- How long you can work
- Where you can work (if applicable)
- Open work permit: Except for the following employers, an open work permit allows you to work for any employer in Canada
- Who is listed as ineligible on the list of employers who have failed to comply with the conditions or
- Who regularly offers striptease, erotic dance, escort services, or erotic massages
You can only get an open work permit in specific situations. The tool on this page will tell you if you’re eligible for one.
