One of the requirements for all visa students is that they maintain full-time status for the duration of their visa. In other words, international students must be enrolled in full-time studies during their stay in Canada.
- Students can work part-time(Max 20 hours per week) while studying full-time.
- Students must have a Social Insurance Number(SIN Number) to work off-campus
- Once the immigration formalities are completed, the SIN is usually available at the airport. If not, the student can obtain it from any Service Canada office.
- Students who have completed their Post-Graduation can apply for an open work permit. The duration of the work permit is determined by the duration of the program. So, if your program lasts two years, the work permit will be valid for three years.
- Only applicants who have successfully completed any full-time program at any government institution will be granted a work permit. In other words, only community college or university graduates will be granted an open work permit. Private career college graduates are not eligible for an open work permit.
- An open work permit means that the applicant is free to work for any organization. It is entirely dependent on how students apply for jobs and perform in interviews. However, Canada provides numerous opportunities for recent graduates.
